My CPU is 1 1/2 generations behind the frontier.  It's an i7-3770k.

Will be home in 30 mins to try! I'm running my 4770k at stock. Back when I was only using a 7990 I OC'd it to 4.5 ghz with no issues. After I put in another 7970 tho it didn't want to run OC'd anymore, so it's running at stock. Realistically, the difference between a stock 4770k and an OC'd one is very minimal, almost non-existant in games and real world scenarios. It makes a difference for benchmarks tho.

Why is the CPU instead of GPU the right benchmark for jelly fountians?

you only have 1 gpu, you wont be using your GPU as a dedicated physics processor in gaming. ( tho you may share load, you wont get that performance irl )
IF bluegoku can make an ati card run physx, he could dedicate 2 cards to rendering and 1 card to physics in theory.

it is intresting to see the gpu performance vs cpu in this task tho.

bg´s machine may be totally cpu bound for this task, which does mean theoretically in an application that requires all physics and little processing - your pc may win ;)

My O/S SSD has failed (several times actually over the past few weeks, but I always managed to reinstall windows and have it work for a few days). I have replaced it with a newer and faster crucial SSD. Just in the midst of installing all of my software, but I'll be able to run that benchmark again in the next day or so and destroy Slart once and for all.

SanDisk Extreme SSD 240 GB SATA 6.0 Gb-s 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SDSSDX-240G-G25

It's 2 years old and wasn't cutting edge when I got it.  PC boots to windows 8.1 desktop in 3 seconds or something stupid like that.

I've got a plextor PCI-E SSD and a crucial something or other, the plextor is super fast (imo). I'd be more than happy to sample one of your SSDs though, Joe!
