We likely would have retained more players had draft league been a double elim bracket tourny that could have been done in half the time instead of the wannabee RSHL league we had to endure, as i illustrated in this post:

https://rshl.org/forums/index.php/topic,38838.msg552406.html#msg552406

and next season, if we immediately started scheduling preseason games as soon as we had a few teams beginning to form, and allowed subs as needed, we'd keep the zone active and wouldnt have the weeks of dead time like we did this last season, which would also serve to help retain population.

Also, regarding settings, i think Splentic is pretty on point.  it seems like most people agree that the -10% accel makes the zone less fun to play.  not to mention every other setting was initially balanced against the original accel speed; its obvious that by globally reducing it 10% (and thank god we managed to avoid doobies initial 15% idea) it makes it more likely that the gameplay will feel less fluid and more clunky, which is def what happened.  most of us seem to have forgotten how offputting the change was at first because we've gotten used to it, but hopefully we can get it changed back.  even if prox were to stay -10%, fixing the accel would make it easier to adjust to catch/pass the ball.

Not so humble brag, but I think it's a toss up between myself, C&M, and Dan as the best goalies in the league this season. I think us three are basically a tier above the rest of the goalies. Argue that point if you want.

Guess I can't really argue that point because you do specify "this season" and I've been unable to show.  But based on the last couple of seasons I'd say I'm at least on par, and I'd wager a bit above you bro.  At least we'll always have our passchallenge dominance.

I'll just add the same two cents I always add to discussions about population.

Stop blaming this and that, the game is old, we have no new sources of players, and we can't retain all of our players forever.

No the settings are not the reason most of our pop is leaving, yes there are probably players who are going to say that's why they quit. Some players will say they left because of zone changes, and some other players will say they left because the zone never changes. Some could stop playing for any arbitrary reason, and others will just move on.

Best thing to do now is to mentally adjust and look at things positively to have the most fun we can have before its gone, because it will be one day.

the settings made acido go into depression and quit hz and also v-flex had an emotional time saying she wasn't going to play because the slower speeds made the game not fun for her.

if settings changes make you find the game not fun and quit that says a lot about someone. Of course improvements should try to be made but you can't really tailor things toward people like acido. these types of people will blame everything other than themselves if they can't adjust to something.

It must be settings fault she wasn't able to adjust from being a freelance ballkiller random goal scorer to playing a pass and move precision team game. instead of having the mentality "i need to make better passes and better cuts and learn how to pressure without lunging on defence instead of cr sitting/lunging with these settings", her reaction is "the game isn't fun the reason im not playing good is because of the settings i quit"

having said this am in favor of a bit larger prox and wouldn't mind a little more speed

The lower Accel / speed + shortened bullet length ( from seasons back ) certainly weakened the torpedo@. But it also strengthened team based defensive pressure.. harder to deke away from being trapped by 3 ships...

It's weird as the older nerfed spider and levi could decimate most ball carriers before they mentally reacted to the incoming threat... This suited many players, but the newer settings seem to have opened a higher effective skill cap that extends beyond individual heroics of yesteryear.

Maybe we need some ship to be reworked to have much better deke ( higher Accel ) but a lower top speed? So the creative ( or random button mashers) can do some heroics again, and stop whining... without being able to just carry the ball end to end... In a manner that is fundamentally skillless.

On ball Vs off ball ship settings? Whats even possible with that anyway?

All in all, while I haven't adapted as fast to these settings as I did previous ones, I enjoy the changes on gameplay thru bring... I hope doobir and others will continue playtesting and tweaking for coming seasons, as varistion also helpz rotate a little who the top players are.

Draft definitely plays a factor. Either way without Mighty Cucks there would be even less players. There should be more of an effort to make the game more enjoyable for them so they stick around. Super teams and smaller proxes aren't going to help that.

The game is what it is...

What is REALLY different about the settings?

Ass pass has forward velocity, slightly lower prox and 10% speed reduction IIRC...?

Ass pass I think most people like.
Lower prox - positives and negatives. Ability to make more passes in tight spaces. Opens up the Crease. Harder to hit teammates consistently for passes.
10% Speed reduction? It's really nothing at the end of the day.

I don't think settings made people quit.

People being forced to play with others is more likely the issue. The data is also skewed because of what Thrill said, lots of inactives were put on rosters.

One year Weeze brought a shit ton of people back too, how many stuck?
